I’ve tried several times installing wordpress on my own hosting. However, I’ve always failed. The main cause of my failure was my ignorance of the role of database in a website. Well, you know, as I’ve always told you times and times again, I’m still a newbie in this continent, man. Another reason is because articles about how to install WordPress manually usually starts from “downloading” the .zip file from http://wordpress.org and then uploading it to our FTP. Well, I don’t mean to find a scapegoat, but I can’t lie that such factor contributed to my failure in installing WordPress.

Okey, then, let’s see the complete and simple way of installing WordPress on your website.

1. Go to MySQL section of your website. If you use cPanel, you can find it clearly with a catchy icon.

2. Create a new database, and remember the database name, database username, database password, and database host

3. Download WordPress CMS from http://wordpress.org

4. Unzip the .zip file

5. Open a file named wp-config-sample.php with a text editor (I usually use wordpad) and fill in your database detail in the appropriate place. For example, when you find “DB_NAME”, just write the name of your database, “DB_USRNAME”, just write your database username, and so on.

6. Save and close wp-config-sample.php

7. Rename wp-config-sample.php into wp-config.php

8. Upload all the files onto the public_html folder of your server

9. Done with the transfer process, open your web browser and go to http://nameofyoursite.com/wp-admin/install.php (if you install WordPress in the main folder, but if you install it in a special folder called blog, please type http://nameofyoursite.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php )

10.  Then you just need to give an appropriate username and password.

That’s it! You can go blogging. I’ve just intalled my newest blog about my daily life.

This is one of the big questions hovering over us bloggers and webmasters who wish to attract advertisers to our blog. It has been a great question to me since some time ago. I made a small competition with my friend. I told him that my page rank, visits, and hits will be better than his in two months time. However, it turned out that I still cannot gain Alexa ranking lower that 3 million (for Alexa, the smaller it is, the better it will be).

Following another friend’s advise, I registered my blog in a number of blog directories. I also insert hyperlinks to my posts in mailing lists and online articles. However, I haven’t seem to gain any result from this efforts. Only four or five people visit my site everyday.

From then on, I finally resolved never to ONLY wish to have a good page rank with such efforts. I DO still wish to have a good page rank. Well, it’s not wrong to wish some money from what why do as long as it doesn’t harm people in any possible terms, right? But, I will do it automatically. By this, I mean I will write ONLY worth reading things so that people can take benefits from what I do. In this way, I believe my blog will be useful for other people, and people will visit it because they DO NEED what I write here. When lots of people get what they need from my website, my page rank will automatically surges. THAT IT! Stop wishing to fool people with only useless SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (by this, I mean SEO will only be useful when you already do the normal ways like creating useful posts).

Hello fellow Greatly Reviewed!!! readers,

This time I’d like to share my story. These few days, I’ve played a lot with a free webhosting. It’s called 000webhost. Actually I knew nothing about cPanel (although in fact I translated a cPanel manual for my friends in the university where I’m working. I knew and used cPanel for the first time when I joined the above mentioned site.

Later, I tried to know more and more about it. And today, with that freehosting that provides 250 MB of disk space and 100 GB bandwidth, and promise of never closed down their servers–it’s their own server and they’ve been in paid webhosting business for four years–I finally bought some cheap domains for myself and for my friends.

Well, if you wanna know more about this freewebhosting (NO ADS WHATSOEVER!!!) just come here http://www.000webhost.com/38031.html and buy yourself a domain and register yourself. Okay?

Yeah, I gotta say this to thank them, guys. It’s quite expensive to have our own hosting, and this one is really helpful.

Man, I don’t wanna play a know-all guy tonight. But, I just can’t resist the temptation to share what I’ve got in mind. I’ll tell you my tiny experience preparing a website for my translation agency. They translation chief asked me to make a website for him a month or two ago. I am not a designer myself, and still worse, I’m just a CMS webmaster (hehehe…. okay, Eko, happy now? hahaha…). However, WordPress flashed into my mind at that time, and then I said “Yes, let’s see what I can do.”

Later, I after some peek at the cPanel, I saw that it has fantastico delux. So, following a friend’s direction, I directly installed the WordPress. Oh man, it’s WordPress 2.5, the latest version. Okay then, everythings gonna be better, thus I said to myself.

After selecting business themes, I decided to use a Rockinblue20. Satisfied with the look, I then started making pages, not posts. Everything is easier with WordPress 2.5. Then, after determining my first page as the home, I went into the file called header.php. I cut <li class=”page_item”><a href=”http://transbahasa.net”>Home</a></li> and then I paste it after <?php wp_list_pages(’title_li=&depth=1′); ?>. With this, I can move the link Home to behind other links to pages (or page titles). Since I wanted to use this link as a link to my blogposts, I then replaced the text home with blog and then I modified <a href=”http://transbahasa.net”> into <a href=”http://transbahasa.net/?p=””>. With this, I can have a link to my blogposts.

So, if you wanna see the result of my humble effort, :D, please click here.

If you have a conventional store, then potential customers you can expect to come are those who live around 0-20 miles away from your store. It’s not wrong to have a conventional store—which demands you to have a building, some people you should hire, some advertisements you need to make when the number of your customers decreases. No, it’s not wrong. HOWEVER, what if I suggest you to start expanding your business? Why don’t you try e-commerce, where you can expect anyone from any corners of the world to see what you’ve got to offer and can buy your goods easily. Okay, you might think that e-commerce is a hard thing to do. But NO! It’s not hard at all with this Ashop Commerce, hosted shopping cart software.

And the best thing is that its engine in search engine-friendly. Hey, in this cyber world, search engine means alot, more than alot. When you’re on the top of the list (in the search results of goods), then you can expect customers come from, as I said before, any corners of the world.
