The Kreutzer Sonata by Leo Tolstoy really digs out what is there in the relation of a man and a woman, especially in a flawed matrimonial one. Tolstoy frankly shows, through his protagonist, that in the flawed matrimonial relationship, the wife can no longer respect the husband because of his past—in the past, he’s the kind of men who always had fun with women, even the married ones, and always avoided serious relationship. The wife can easily be attracted to a handsome man and the husband is too jealous.
One time, the husband invites the man to whom his wife is attracted to play music at his home with his wife, to play “The Kreutzer Sonata”. Unexpectedly, the wife and the protagonist’s wife played very well and it even made the man thinks that they internalized the music too much that the music itself sounds lustful. Later, when the husband’s out of town, he gets very anxious to receive a letter from his wife telling that the musician has pays visit several times. So anxious as he is, he decides to go home. He gets so pleasurably mad to find that the man is indeed still in the house. He expressed his anger by threatening to hurt the man and his own wife. His wife gets stabbed on the side of her body. Finally, police arrests him.
You might find that I give the spoiler here. Well, it might be so. But to me, the point of the story is not the plot itself. It is more on the reflections you can find in almost all of the sentences there. Just delve into the sentences and you’ll find yourself charmed by Tolstoy’s frankness. His frankness reveals something hidden in the relationship of a man and woman.

Gee! the lone dreamer has transformed himself into this very sophisticated reviewer. Very nice to see you in another universe. it seems you’ve prepared yourself so much to go to the all-dream-can-happen country. He, he…
Anyway, about this Tolstoy’ novel, I go with you in that it digs out the relationship between man and woman. However, what I don’t get (sorry because I’ve never read the novel) is who is characterized by Tolstoy as protagonist and who’s the antagonist. from your review, my ’suheng’, I assume that the two, the husband and wife, are not the protagonist. and the musician? yeah, perhaps he is the pro. I give up. I don’t know who is in this novel is the pro. I love the pro and hate the ant. (like a child a?). tell me friend who is the kind heart in this novel…
