After feeling dissatisfied by the incompatibilities of Firefox 3 (Beta) with Mozilla addons (which are very important for me, I finally decided to downgrade the default Firefox 3 (Beta) on my Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron to Firefox 2, the best web browser ever :D.

I tried to google for commands to downgrade the webbrowser (you still remember that I’m a newbie in unix-based OS, right?)

From a website and a forum, I found these lines of commands:

sudo apt-get purge firefox-3.0
rm -r ~/.mozilla/firefox
sudo apt-get install firefox-2

Yes, that’s it. I tried these commands and they did work (although I have to wait for about 10 minutes for the download and installation to complete. Well, no problem, since I’m very addicted to such addons as “deepest sender” for blogging, “pray times” to remind me when it comes to have prayers, “gmail notifier” to be informed about new messages in my gmail mailbox and so on.

So far, I’ve been very happy with my Ubuntu 8.04 Hardy Heron’s performance. It’s still the cool ubuntu I knew last year. However, I’ve got a small complain about it. Well, let’s not call it a complain. Let’s just say that it’s “a request for improvement”. Well, actually it’s person by person request.

It’s about the Firefox 3 (Beta). I don’t know why, maybe because it’s so new that lots of firefox addons in the Net are not compatible with it. Maybe for other people it is okay. But for me, a full time blogger :D, I don’t like the fact that some blogging addons for firefox can’t work with Firefox 3 (Beta).

For example, I usually use a firefox addon called Deepest Sender for me to send blog posts to my wordpress-based blogs. However, I have found out that deepest sender is not compatible with Firefox 3 (Beta). So…. I have to visit my blogs one by one if I want to entry a post. The problem is, I’ve got 5 different wordpress-based blogs. So… it’s time consuming to visit the blog one by one, right?

So, please 1) improve firefox 3 (beta) as to be compatible with the existing addons in the Net, 2) for all addon engineers, please upgrade your addons :D.

Thanks all.

I’ve tried several times installing wordpress on my own hosting. However, I’ve always failed. The main cause of my failure was my ignorance of the role of database in a website. Well, you know, as I’ve always told you times and times again, I’m still a newbie in this continent, man. Another reason is because articles about how to install WordPress manually usually starts from “downloading” the .zip file from http://wordpress.org and then uploading it to our FTP. Well, I don’t mean to find a scapegoat, but I can’t lie that such factor contributed to my failure in installing WordPress.

Okey, then, let’s see the complete and simple way of installing WordPress on your website.

1. Go to MySQL section of your website. If you use cPanel, you can find it clearly with a catchy icon.

2. Create a new database, and remember the database name, database username, database password, and database host

3. Download WordPress CMS from http://wordpress.org

4. Unzip the .zip file

5. Open a file named wp-config-sample.php with a text editor (I usually use wordpad) and fill in your database detail in the appropriate place. For example, when you find “DB_NAME”, just write the name of your database, “DB_USRNAME”, just write your database username, and so on.

6. Save and close wp-config-sample.php

7. Rename wp-config-sample.php into wp-config.php

8. Upload all the files onto the public_html folder of your server

9. Done with the transfer process, open your web browser and go to http://nameofyoursite.com/wp-admin/install.php (if you install WordPress in the main folder, but if you install it in a special folder called blog, please type http://nameofyoursite.com/blog/wp-admin/install.php )

10.  Then you just need to give an appropriate username and password.

That’s it! You can go blogging. I’ve just intalled my newest blog about my daily life.

Finally, I launched another blog of mine that I get with a free hosting thanks to 000webhost.com. For this blog, I have planned to post any information I get about free stuffs I find over the Internet. Well, as a translator, I begin my blogging days by short-reviewing free dictionary WordWeb. I hope, with this blog I can share all I those free things with people who happen to need free things for their learning or profession. As for my part, well… still I want to learn as much as possible about blogging. That’s it. And I will be thankful if someone contacts me to help him/her advertise things through that blog. :D

This is one of the big questions hovering over us bloggers and webmasters who wish to attract advertisers to our blog. It has been a great question to me since some time ago. I made a small competition with my friend. I told him that my page rank, visits, and hits will be better than his in two months time. However, it turned out that I still cannot gain Alexa ranking lower that 3 million (for Alexa, the smaller it is, the better it will be).

Following another friend’s advise, I registered my blog in a number of blog directories. I also insert hyperlinks to my posts in mailing lists and online articles. However, I haven’t seem to gain any result from this efforts. Only four or five people visit my site everyday.

From then on, I finally resolved never to ONLY wish to have a good page rank with such efforts. I DO still wish to have a good page rank. Well, it’s not wrong to wish some money from what why do as long as it doesn’t harm people in any possible terms, right? But, I will do it automatically. By this, I mean I will write ONLY worth reading things so that people can take benefits from what I do. In this way, I believe my blog will be useful for other people, and people will visit it because they DO NEED what I write here. When lots of people get what they need from my website, my page rank will automatically surges. THAT IT! Stop wishing to fool people with only useless SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZATION (by this, I mean SEO will only be useful when you already do the normal ways like creating useful posts).
